Tiffany wedding shower 04/29/2012
This week, the project was a Tiffany themed wedding shower for a friend-of-a-friend (who apparently is quite the Diva!). My Mother's beautiful silver tray set was front and centre again displaying an 8" topper cake and vanilla cupcakes. The topper cake is red velvet with cream cheese covered in blue fondant and accented with an imported edible jumbo diamond. Cookies make great favours and give a-ways! The cookies in the white organza bags are going to be attached to some of the gifts while the cookies in the plain plastic are going to the kids at the party. I hope the Diva likes it! The best part was the delivery, when I got to have breakfast with my friend! Add Comment Happy 18th Taylor! 04/22/2012
About 3 month's ago, a neighbor in the building (Dawn - a sweetheart!) bumped into me in the parking lot while I was hauling supplies in. She made she that I knew her daughter wanted one of my cakes for her birthday in April. I had made Taylor's 16th birthday cake and everyone loved it. I bumped into Dawn a few times before the party and she kept making sure I was available for her daughter's cake - how cute! Taylor picked the designed - wanting a three tiered cake with a leopard design in hot colours! The top tie is a vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream, the middle is red velvet with cream cheese icing and the bottom is devil's food chocolate with vanilla buttercream. I bumped into one of the party go-ers, and she let me know how much everyone loved the cakes - made my day!! Congratulations Maria and Roberto! 04/14/2012
I was very excited when I got the text from Maria asking if I would be a part of her wedding. It was supposed to be a small ceremony at city hall (the big event is to come in a few months in Mexico) with a dinner afterwards, but so many people wanted to share in Maria's special day, that the happy couple ended up hosting a reception for 80 people (and that was the short list!). Maria asked if I would make a cake, cupcakes and mini cupcakes for the wedding. She also requested some cookies to give away as favours. She was very relaxed about the whole decision making process and was quite easy to please. I ended up forgetting my camera in my rush to make sure everything was set up in time - I'm hoping to get better pictures from a friend soon. Birthday present for Valentina 04/01/2012
Becoming an Aunt was probably the most extraordinary experience of my life - all three times. Seeing a friend get to have that same experience is almost as good as going through it yourself. When my friend Olga became an Aunt, everyone was thrilled for her. Now, little Valentina is 5 years old and for her birthday, her Tia (Auntie) wanted a special cake. And even though Olga had to go out of the country to attend to an ill family member, she still made sure her nice felt very special on her birthday. Aunts are amazing people... Phineas and Ferb - I'm so out of touch... 04/01/2012
Since I'm not a parent, I'm not really hip to all the new kid's shows. When my client first sent me a picture of a cake that she wanted - I had to ask "who's that?". Phineas and Ferb was the answer, but I still had to ask google for more details. Much better than a big purple dinosaur! A Spring cake for Manuela 03/25/2012
One of the side perks of this job is getting to see how my customer's lives change and their families grow over the years. When I met Manuela (and her Mom), she was just a kid. Now she's grown into a young lady. I was very glad that she was able to accompany her Mother to pick up the cake - to spite a newly broken foot! It was nice to see how she's grown and changed, and of course the smile on her face when she saw the cake. Sleepover madness 02/12/2012
In addition to the belly cake, Beth also wanted a cake for her daughter's 12th birthday. Shaughnessy loved the cupcakes I made for her 10th birthday and was excited to be getting a special cake again this year. Beth said that the girls were having a sleepover, so I sent her some pictures of the sleep over cakes I've make for my niece. She loved this one and wanted one similar. Another Belly Cake for Beth 02/12/2012
I always get excited when I see an email from Beth in my in-box. Some of my favourite projects have been for Beth, like the Palm Bay cans, the crawling out the grave cake and her daughter's 10th birthday cupcakes. This time she wanted another belly cake for a baby shower, pretty much exactly like the last one. Shortly after Lisa's baby shower, my new friend Jan (Lisa's sister - fantastic chick) asked me to make a cake for the teacher she works with, Mr. Y. Jan works with special needs kids as a guidance counselor in a higher school - one of those jobs, like a nurse, that I think is highly underpaid and under recognized. She wanted to get him something special to show her appreciation. Apparently, Mr. Y likes his Coke very much - I think Jan said he has at least one every day. I heard later that Mr. Y was so happy with his cake that he sent pictures of it out to the whole school! Baby for Lisa & Herb! 02/01/2012
Lisa, my new BFF at work (who befriended me and showed me everything I needed to know when I was a newbie at my recently new day job) is having a baby and her hubby Herb asked me to make the cake for her shower. This was a huge honour for me because Herb fancies himself a pastry chef too (though, he does have far more industry experience then I do) and it's been a running joke between Lisa and myself that when they finally have their wedding, that *I* am going to make the cake. She always said Herb wouldn't have it because he wanted to make their wedding cake. So I told her that at least I would get to make the baby shower cake, and even that she shot me down on saying Herb would probably want to do it. I win! The baby's room is painted blue with an underwater theme. We suspect it's a girl, but we can't seem to find anyone in the medical profession who will confirm it for us. Congrats Lisa!!! |
